Routers are an incredibly useful tool for your LAN. Don't be intimidated if you haven't used a router before. Today's routers are so smart, you might not have to do anything more than plug the router into your network. That said, if you do need to change some settings, make sure you have the information your ISP provides you regarding connecting your computer to the Internet. With this information you can share Internet access with all the computers on your network. Because a router adds little to the price of an access point, shop for an access point with a built-in router. If you choose not to use a router, you can use a built-in feature of Windows, called Internet connection sharing (ICS), to share your connection.
